If you collect all six of these patches, the center of the wheel, which features NWFT's mascot, the "little guy," is free of charge. You can find these patches at our regular 2011 events or the following Year Rounds:
The California Trail was somewhat lesser known than the Oregon Trail, but like the Oregon Trail, it answered the call to "Go West, Young Man." About 40,000 people, mostly young men with dreams of gold, traveled this trail. The California Trail began at various jumping-off points in Missouri such as St. Joseph and Independence. The specific route that emigrants and forty-niners used depended on their starting point in Missouri, their final destination in California, the condition of their wagons and livestock, and yearly changes in water and forage along the different routes. One part of this trail passes through the state of Nebraska from Nebraska City to Ashland (also the Oxbow Trail). More information on the California Trail and many of trails featured on our walks can be found at the Western Historic Trails Center in Council Bluffs.
